“Ceramics is a part of my being. Creating something out of earth that has potential to endure beyond our lifetime has a sacred quality to the process. It is my escape, my mindful practice.”

Me

My name is Nicole Adams. Nickers is my nick name, hence the name Nickers and Clay. I started playing with clay when I was 15yrs old, the interest sparked by a project in my year 10 arts class. My 16th brithday present was a pottery wheel and I have been craving studio time since.

I enjoy exploring different techniques used in creating with the medium of clay, the possibilities of this 3 dimensional material and its chemistry are endless. I build using slabs both cut and rolled, coils, wheel throwing and slipcast, I create functional and sculptural work and mix my own glazes to decorate it. I suffer from kiln stress.

I try my best to care for the environment and reduce my footprint. I love growing vegies and native plants. I am a busy mum who hopes to be raising socially and environmentally aware beings.

Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia is my home. A place of the Nuenonne people, custodians and caretakers of this land for thousands of years, I pay respect to them and acknowledge their connection to this country, country my family and I also hold deep connection to, a place that has major influence on my work.
